GCSU Women Sixth, Men Seventh at Jacoby Memorial

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Running for the fourth-straight weekend, the Georgia College & State University cross country teams competed today (Sept. 20) at the Fleet Feet Sports/Earl Jacoby Memorial, hosted by the University of Alabama-Huntsville. The women took sixth among 12 teams, and the men were seventh among 10.

Junior Heather Raines (Lawrenceville, Ga.)led the women's team for the first time in her career, taking 19th by spanning the 5K course in 20:22. Taking 21st was classmate Bonnie Ueltzen (Blairsville, Ga.) in 20:33.

A pair of freshmen rounded out the Bobcats in the top-30, as Karissa Ekstrom (Alpharetta, Ga.) was 25th at 20:49, with Erin Oshust(Acworth, Ga.) at 28th (21:07). Rookie Victoria Dobson (Cambridge, Ontario) rounded out the top-five at 34th overall in 21:23.

Junior Josh Hollar (Canton, Ga.) led the men's side for Georgia College, finishing 31st in 28:43. One slot behind Hollar was rookie Colin Conroy(Dacula, Ga.) covering the 8K course in 28:45. Rookie Travis Knight(Oxford, Ga.) was third on the team and 36th overall at 28:50.

Freshman Daniel Horseman (Cohotta, Ga.) and sophomore Tim Cary(Monroe, Ga.) were third (28:57) and fourth (28:58) on the team, respectively.

Host UAH won both team races, while Charger Mike Temple won the men's race in 26:11 and Austin Peay State University's Bertha Castillo won the women's title in 18:27.

The Bobcats return to action Saturday, Sept. 27 at Mercer University in Macon, Ga. for the Mercer RunFit Sports Invitational.
