LEXINGTON, Ky. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) released the 2018-19 Team Academic Award recipients recently, with Georgia College Volleyball joining the members of the list.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
"I'm thrilled for this team to be recognized by the AVCA," said GC Volleyball head coach Gretchen Krumdieck. "There are countless hours of studying going on during bus rides or in hotel lobbies and I'm very proud of these young women for all the work that goes into being a college student-athlete."
The Bobcats have picked up the honor in four of their six seasons. Georgia College reached the championship game of the 2018 PBC Tournament and finished with a 17-13 overall record. The Bobcats placed four players on the All-Academic team, nine on the PBC Presidential Honor Roll and sophomore Libby Bochniak (Marietta, Georgia) became the first player in GC history to be named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District team.
GC Volleyball begins the 2019 season at home Friday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. against Tusculum University.
