INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 16 Georgia College Women's Tennis team (20-8) earned a top spot in the latest NCAA Regional Rankings Poll released Wednesday. Slotted fourth in the Southeast Region, the Bobcat women come in just behind three other Peach Belt Conference (PBC) schools.
After a semifinal run in the PBC Tournament last weekend, the Georgia College team finds itself just behind Armstrong State University (1), Columbus State University (2) and Flagler College (3). The Bobcat women defeated Francis Marion University in the opening round before falling to Armstrong State in the semifinal and Flagler in the third place match.
Of the other six Southeast Region slots, four are occupied by PBC schools: Francis Marion (5), USC Aiken (6), University of North Georgia (7) and Augusta University (9). The two remaining slots fall to Queens University (NC) (8) and Wingate University (10); teams from the South Atlantic Conference (SAC).
The NCAA Tournament Selection Show will be held on May 3 and play will begin on May 7. Three automatic bids are given to conference tournament winners from the PBC, SAC and Conference Carolinas (CC). The final version of this poll will determine the at-large bids. The Southeast Region is divided into two separate tournament sites with the winner of each advancing to the NCAA Finals in Denver, Colorado.
