MARTINEZ, Ga. – Georgia College women’s tennis’ Michelle Lingner (Dunwoody, Ga.) and Kim Lochner (Neu-Isenburg, Germany) were named as honorable mentions to the 2011 Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Women’s Tennis All-Academic Team, the conference office announced recently.

Lingner was a solid contributor in both singles and doubles action, going a team-best 13-5 mostly out of the sixth slot. She also had a 14-6 doubles mark with May Johnson (Sydney, Australia) in the second slot. Lingner owns a 3.36 GPA in pre-nursing.

Lochner was also an every-match starter going 11-14, mostly at fourth singles. She posted a 3.39 GPA with a double-major in management and marketing.

The teams are part of a season-long program recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of PBC student-athletes in the classroom as well as on the field. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team’s events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution. The PBC Sports Information Directors oversee and select the teams.

The Bobcats advanced to the NCAA Tournament this season, making 17-straight appearances in that regional tourney. GC Women’s tennis finished 16-9, taking fifth in the tough PBC standings. Bertille Lion (2007-11) and Kayla Barksdale (Augusta, Ga.) took all-conference honors.
