#30 Bobcat Women Womenhandle #27 Panthers, 8-1

PENSACOLA, Fla. The No. 30 Georgia College women's tennis team (10-4) played a higher-ranked opponent in No. 27 Drury University (4-5) Thursday morning but came out strong, winning in grand fashion 8-1.

The Bobcats took the early lead, dominating the doubles portion, 3-0. Kayla Barksdale (Augusta, Ga.) and Bertille Lion (Lyon, France) finished up last but their win concluded the doubles sweep, defeating Ivana Marevic and Abbey Sharpe, 8-5. The Bobcats' first doubles pair is now 8-5 on the season, including four straight wins.

May Johnson (Sydney, Australia) and Michelle Lingner (Dunwoody, Ga.) picked it back up after a tough loss yesterday and destroyed Alana Bellinger and Pelagie Gamo, 8-3 after being in the hole 3-1. Lisa Setyon (Paris, France) and Kelly Edwards (Roswell, Ga.) got the first win of the day for GC in third doubles, toppling Ellen Bennett and Valentine Lambrechts, 8-4.

Lion played out of the No. 1 spot for the Bobcats, defeating Gamo, 6-3, 6-4. Johnson won in a two-set battle over Marevic, 7-6, 6-3. Barksdale took care of business yet again for the Bobcats downing Sharpe, 6-2, 6-1, improving her record to 10-3. Lochner dropped GC's first and only match of the day to Lambrechts in a tie-breaker, 2-6, 6-2, 11-9.

Setyon looked great again on the hard court, downing Bellinger, 7-6, 6-0, improving her record to a team best 10-2 from the fifth slot. Lingner has dominated as of late improving her record to 6-2 with a victory over Bennett, 6-0, 6-2.

The Bobcats will have the day off tomorrow at the White Sands Invitational to enjoy the white beaches of Pensacola, Fla. but then it is back to work Saturday, March 26 against Delta State University at 10 a.m.
