#30 Bobcat Women’s Tennis Buzzes by Bees, 7-2

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 30 Georgia College & State University women’s tennis team (10-10, 5-6 PBC) picked-up a big 7-2 win Sunday at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility topping a strong NAIA program in the Savannah College of Art and Design (10-2).

The Bobcats went 2-1 in doubles action, as the freshmen pair of Kayla Barksdale (Martinez, Ga.) and Michelle Lingner (Dunwoody, Ga.) fell 8-6 to Charoltte Debrey and Nisha Michau. Slotted third, Adriana Acuna (Peachtree City, Ga.) and Linda Mosa (Stockholm, Sweden) outlasted SCAD’s Annie Chastain and Stephanie Gula 9-8.

Georgia College’s Diane Danna (Paris) and Bertille Lion (Lyon, France) found themselves down 7-2 against Courtney Collins and Romina Mrochen in first doubles. Feeling the heat, the French duo came alive and fought back to an impressive 9-7 victory, improving to 11-9 for the season.

Danna carried that momentum into singles play, sweeping Mrochen 6-1 and 6-0 in the first position, while Barksdale beat Collins in the same fashion. Danna is 14-4 this season, taking 10 of her last 11 matches. In the No. 3 spot, Lion improved to 15-4, downing Michau 6-0, 6-2. The junior Lion has won 11 of her last 12.

At fourth singles, Lingner struggled, losing 6-0 and 6-1 to Debrey, while Mosa defeated Gula 6-2 and 7-6. Acuna claimed sixth singles in three sets going, 4-6, 6-4 and 10-8 against Chastain.

The Bobcats are back action Wednesday, April 14 hosting No. 32 Lander University for Senior Day starting at 2:30 p.m.
