#30 Bobcat Women’s Tennis Banishes Braves, 6-3

PEMBROKE, N.C. – The No. 30 Georgia College & State University women’s tennis team (9-10, 5-6 PBC) beat UNC Pembroke (9-14, 2-10 PBC) 6-3 Friday, breaking a three-match losing streak.

In doubles action, the Bobcat French duo of Diane Danna (Paris) and Bertille Lion (Lyon, France) improved to 10-9 in the No. 1 position, defeating Jenna McGary and Janna Oxendine 8-4. The Braves claimed the second spot as Kayla Barksdale (Martinez, Ga.) and Caroline Seabolt (Madison, Ga.) fell 8-3 to Meredith Pierson and Mia Winterbottom.

Georgia College’s Adriana Acuna (Peachtree City, Ga.) teamed with Linda Mosa (Stockholm, Sweden) to pick-up their fifth victory this season, taking Christian Minnick and Maricel Quintero 8-4. The ‘Cats held a 2-1 lead entering singles play.

At first singles, No. 48 ranked Danna collected her lucky 13th win, going 13-4 for the season. She has now won nine of her last 10 matches. The Georgia College senior swept McGary in a pair of 6-3 sets, while Barksdale outlasted Winterbottom 6-4, 6-2.

Lion has been on fire as of late, winning 10 of her last 11 matches. Slotted third, the junior dominated Pierson, claiming the first set 6-1 and then blanking the Lady Brave 6-0. Lion improved to 14-4 for the 2010 campaign.

In fourth singles, Quintero lost 6-2, 6-1 to Georgia College’s Mosa, who advanced to a 7-9 record. Acuna surrendered 6-4, 6-2 against Oxendine, while Seabolt fell 6-0, 6-2 to UNCP’s Minnick in the sixth spot.

The Bobcats are back in action Sunday, April 11 hosting the Bees of Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) at noon.
