PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 31 women’s tennis team at Georgia College & State University (5-7) was edged 5-4 Wednesday against the University of North Alabama in the opening day of the White Sands Tournament.

Georgia College was able to steal a win at third doubles by default but lost at first and second doubles. At first doubles, Diane Danna (Paris, France) and Bertille Lion (Lyon, France) lost a nail biter 8-6 to the team of Victoria Rees and Mallory Waites. The freshman duo of Michelle Lingner (Dunwoody, Ga.) and Kayla Barksdale (Martinez, Ga.) lost 8-5 to the Lions’ twosome of Lenka Hola and Teresa Franco.

Senior Danna defeated North Alabama’s Rees 6-2, 7-6 at first singles. The Bobcats also got a win at third singles, as Danna’s teammate and junior Lion took the first set 6-2 before retiring Hola in the second set.

Barksdale and Lingner both fell to scores of 6-3, 6-3 in their respective singles matches. Barksdale lost to Waites, and Lingner was beat by Franco.

Sophomore Adriana Acuna (Peachtree City, Ga.) was also beat by the score of 6-3, 6-3 by the Lions’ Keehn.

The Bobcats won sixth singles by default as North Alabama didn’t have enough active players to field the position.
