ST. PETERSBERG, Fla. – The Georgia College Soccer team (0-1) lost a tough contest in their season opener, falling to region opponent Eckerd College (1-0) in a defensive battle, 1-0.
The lone goal for the Tritons came in right before the first half whistle when Lauren Yudin snuck a 45th minute shot past freshman keeper Kate Richardson (Marietta, Georgia) into the top left corner after collecting a loose ball just outside of the box. Richardson finished the game with six saves, playing all 90 minutes in goal for the Bobcats.
Offensively, Georgia College managed to test Eckerd keeper Casey Winn six times. Becca Morris (Marietta, Georgia) tallied three shots, one of which was on goal and Cassie Balzano (Douglasville, Georgia) and Summer Ligon (Carrolton, Georgia) each took a pair of shots with one a piece falling into the keeper's hands.
The Bobcats return to action Sunday, Sept. 6 wrapping up their South Florida road trip at Florida Southern University. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
