VIERA, Fla. – Georgia College Softball (10-7) started the Florida Tech Invitational in a battle between two 2018 NCAA Tournament Qualifiers, the Bobcats falling 5-3 to Palm Beach Atlantic University (7-9) Friday night.
Georgia College started things off well, plating two runs in the first. Leftfielder Darby Pinkard (Acworth, Georgia) brought in both Caroline Snider (Tennille, Georgia) and Amber Coy (Warner Robins, Georgia) with a single up the middle.
PBA answered with three in the second, taking advantage of a key Bobcat error and a pair of walks. The Bobcats then brought things even again, plating a run on an error of their own in the fourth. A two-run fifth provided the difference for the Sailfish. GC had the tying run on base in the fifth and at the plate in the sixth, but couldn't get the crucial hit to draw even again.
Pinkard finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Third baseman Carlie Behan (Cumming, Georgia) also had two hits, scoring a run as well. Sophomore Rebecca Lawrence (Vidalia, Georgia) took the hard-luck loss (3-4) in four innings of work, despite surrendering just a single earned run.
The Bobcats are back in action tomorrow, Feb. 23, taking on both Barry University and Lynn University.
