ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Georgia College Softball team (30-18, 16-8 PBC) dropped two games to close out the regular season Friday, losing 9-0 and 9-8 to Flagler College (33-19, 16-6 PBC) on the road.
Game one was tight until the second inning. Up just 1-0, the Saints couldn't be stopped in the second, crossing the plate eight times on eight hits and one error. Catcher Makenzie Conley was 3-for-3 for the game with three RBIs and two runs, tallying a home run and double.
GC senior Danielle Bernstein (Cumming, Georgia) was a Bobcat bright spot, going 2-for-3.
Game two was a back-and-forth affair, with Flagler needing a four-run rally in the bottom of the seventh to get the win. An infield single by Megan Miller provided the game-winner.
Second baseman Hannah Coursey (Powder Springs, Georgia) went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs, tripling home a pair in the fifth. Bernstein had two more hits, drove in one and scored another.
First baseman Cassidy Rice (DuQuoin, Illinois) added a 3-for-4 effort, a run scored and a double.
The losses drop Georgia College to 16-8 in Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play, good for fifth in the league standings. GC Softball now waits for the rest of the conference to finish their schedules, most having just a doubleheader left to go. The Bobcats have clinched a PBC Tournament spot, as they can finish no lower than fifth and no higher than fourth. The top eight seeds advance to the PBC Tournament to be held on the Georgia College campus April 21-22.
