NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Georgia College men's cross country team dropped two spots in the latest U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Southeast Region Poll released on Tuesday. Previously ranked at an all-time program high of fourth best in the region, the Bobcat men now rest at number six.
The Bobcat men had an impressive week as they hosted the Georgia Division II Collegiate Championships at the newly-renovated Council Farm Course. The team had a very strong showing, placing second overall out of 11 schools.
The team also received a huge boost from two freshmen who each set a personal best in the 8K race. Joshua Warren (Fayetteville, Georgia) ran a time of 26:56 and Trent Johnson (Dacula, Georgia) ran a time of 27:03. The duo put together their best race of the season, finishing in 12th and 14th place respectively.
In addition to Georgia College, five other Peach Belt Conference (PBC) schools were ranked in the top-10. UNC Pembroke and Columbus State University reside just ahead of the Bobcats at three and four, while Augusta University, Young Harris College, and Flagler College rank just below at seven, nine and 10.
The Columbus State team placed first overall at the Georgia Division II Collegiate Championships and moved up two spots from last week's sixth place ranking. Young Harris and Flagler were previously unranked.
The Bobcat team will be back in action Saturday, Oct. 4 as they compete for the PBC Championship in Dahlonega, Georgia.
