MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Both Georgia College cross country teams placed at the top in the Bobcat Classic meet on Friday night at the West Campus cross county course.
The Georgia College men had a strong showing in the Bobcat Classic, their first meet of the 2015 season. All six of the Bobcat runners placed within the top-10 finishers.
Four of the six runners were freshmen. Joshua Warren (Fayetteville), Trent Johnson (Dacula), Brian Skoglind (Cumming) and Daniel Sexton (Cumming) all placed within the top six with Warren securing first place overall in his first collegiate meet.
The Georgia College women had a very strong showing as well. The team took all three of the top spots as well as fifth and seventh place.
Brittany Schwind (Suwanee) placed first to the lead the Bobcats with a time of 22:48, Madison Stokes (Macon) finished second in 22:56, Mariah Maring (Lawrenceville) placed third with a time of 23:04, Josi Giovinazzo (Kathleen) finished fifth in 25:05, and Sarah Willis (Tift) finished seventh with a time of 26:23.
There was an error in logging the men's finishing times.
The Bobcats held out some of their more experienced runners allowing them to rest and focus on the next meet, as they will travel to Greenville, S.C. for the Furman Invitational Saturday, Sept. 12 with the women beginning at 8:30 a.m. and the men taking off at 9:15 a.m.
