MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Senior cross country student-athlete Tyler Mattix (Snellville, Ga.) claimed Georgia College Athlete of the Week honors for the first time of his two-year career, as announced by the GC Sports Information Department Tuesday afternoon.
Mattix led the Bobcats at the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Championships, devouring the 8K course in just 27:08. His time was good for ninth place overall among the 63 runners, helping Georgia College to a fifth place team finish.
The Snellville native’s effort earned him a slot on the All-PBC Second Team, sharing the accolade with fellow senior Dan Horseman (Cohutta, Ga.) who finished 14th. It marks the first time since 2007 GC has put two men’s runners on the All-PBC team.
Mattix and the rest of the Bobcat harriers will look to make their mark at the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships Saturday, Nov. 5 in Charlotte, N.C.
