MARTINEZ, Ga. - The Peach Belt Conference (PBC) recently announced the PBC Sportsmanship Award Teams for the fall semester, with Georgia College & State University taking the honor for men's cross country.

The awards program, which includes honoring one team from each of the league's 12 championship sports, will also recognize one institution with the ‘Institution of the Year Sportsmanship Award.'

The program presents an award following each championship season to the team in that sport that best exemplifies the spirit of sportsmanship and generally conducts themselves with a high degree of integrity, character and class. The team award is selected by other teams who compete in that sport. Points are awarded based on how each team finished in the voting and in June, the institution with the highest totals will receive the ‘PBC Institution of the Year Sportsmanship Award.'

The league's Senior Woman Administrators will oversee the program.

The Bobcats battled injuries and illness all season, still managing three top five finishes on the season. Georgia College finished fifth at the PBC Championships and 11th at the NCAA Southeast Regional in 2009.

The GCSU Department of Athletics, winners of the 2008-09 PBC Commissioner's Cup, sponsors 10 varsity athletic programs at the NCAA Division II level. As a Division II program, GCSU prides itself on balancing the life of the student-athlete, evidenced by the Bobcats' multiple appearances in post-season competition as well as documented academic success and community-service involvement.
