GC Golf Seventh after Day One at UNG Fall Invite

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Firing their sub-par 36-hole score as a team this season, the Georgia College Golf Team stands seventh Monday at the UNG Fall Invitational, hosted by the University of North Georgia.

Junior Alex Wells (Evans) is slotted 10th after rounds of 71 and 70 today. Wells is three-under on the par-72, 6,967-yard Achasta, by Reynolds course. Wells had five total birdies on the day, including a 12-hole stretch of par-or-better in the second round.

Second on the team and 17th overall in the field of 82 is sophomore Bailey Scifleet (Canberra, Australia) posting rounds of 73 and 69 for two-under. The second round is the lowest score put up by a Bobcat since Daniel Davis (Columbus) fired a 67 in round two of the 2019 Hurricane Invitational. Scifleet posted an eagle on the par-five No. 14 in round two.

Senior Drew Duffie (Evans) stands 34th at one-over. He shot a 74 and 71, including birdies on Nos. 4, 11, 13 and 14 in round two. Sophomore Isaac Samples (Loganville) is tied with Duffie, carding the same rounds in reverse order. In the opening round, Samples had just one hole beyond par. Freshman Mike Leanos (Kennesaw) has a 12-over effort in 75th after rounds of 77 and 79.

The Bobcats shot a 289 in round one and a 284 in round two. GC is one stroke behind a tie for fifth, and five out of fourth. Clayton State University leads the team effort at a whopping 22-under par, seven strokes ahead of Carson-Newman University. The Bobcats are two strokes ahead of No. 25 Young Harris College.

The third and final round comes tomorrow, Oct. 1.
