ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Junior Austin Mancilla (Lawrenceville, Georgia) took fourth to earn Peach Belt Conference (PBC) All-Tournament Team status Sunday, as Georgia College Golf finished ninth at the 2019 PBC Tournament, hosted by Flagler College.
Mancilla carded a pair of 70s wrapped around a 73 for three-under on the par-72, 6,939-yard Slammer and Squire course. The junior finished today's round at a scorching pace, with five birdies on the back nine. The par-five No. 11 was kind to Mancilla this weekend, as he posted two birdies and a first-round eagle there.
Second on the team and 11th among the 45 golfers was freshman Hilton Beck (Macon, Georgia). Beck responded well to his first collegiate postseason action, scoring a pair of 74s yesterday and an even-par effort today. Beck also finished strong, going two-under on the back nine thanks to three birdies.
Classmate Isaac Samples (Loganville, Georgia) finished 37th at plus-18 after rounds of 77 and 81 yesterday with today's 76. Another first-time PBC Tourney participant, Samples had birdies on Nos. 9 and 14 today.
Sophomore Daniel Davis (Columbus, Georgia) was 40th after a plus-19 effort. He had two 80s yesterday but shaved five strokes off that score today. The middle of the course was his strong suit, posting birdies on Nos. 7, 9 and 10. Junior Drew Duffie (Evans, Georgia) was plus-23 with rounds of 78 and 82 yesterday and a 79 today.
Host Flagler took the 2019 PBC title at even par, 10 strokes ahead of No. 12 Young Harris College. The individual title went to Flagler's Juan Iturra at seven-under. Joining him on the All-Tournament Team was fellow Saint Mauro Baez and YHC's Valter Andersson at four-under, Mancilla at three-under, and the trio at one-under of the University of North Georgia's Logan Archer, Columbus State University's Jordan Doull and Flagler's Charles Collings.
The tourney brings a close to the 2018-19 season for Bobcat Golf, one highlighted by a runner-up finish at the UNG Fall Invitational and All-PBC Second Team honors for Mancilla
