CARROLLTON, Ga. — The No. 24 Georgia College Golf team took eighth place Tuesday at the Matt Dyas Invitational, hosted by the University of West Georgia. The Bobcats finished nine-over with rounds of 296 and 285 Monday and today's 292.
Austin Mancilla (Lawrenceville) and Drew Duffie (Evans) tied for the team lead at 14th place in the 68-golfer field. The pair of juniors finished at even par on the par-72, 7,026-yard Oak Mountain Championship Course. Duffie followed a solid 75 in round one with two sub-par rounds at 70 and a 71 in round three. Mancilla carded a 72, 71 and 73 to get to even par. He was the best in the field in par-five scoring, averaging 4.42 and going for seven-under. Duffie was three-under on par-five scoring and one-over on par-four scoring.
Each of these two juniors scored one eagle apiece, with Mancilla leading the Bobcats in birdies at 10.
Third on the team and 42nd overall at plus-six was freshman Hilton Beck (Macon) in his first time as a starter for the Bobcats. Beck fired a 74 and 71 yesterday with today's 77, all three of his rounds counting for the team score.
Sophomore Daniel Davis (Columbus) saved his best for last, carding a 78 and 74 yesterday, then a 71 today. Davis was 44th at seven-over. Freshman Isaac Samples (Loganville) was strong on day one with a 75 and 73, but fell behind with today's 85, slipping to 63rd place.
No. 7 Young Harris College took the team title at nine-under, besting host West Georgia by four strokes. The individual champion was Dylan Lillard of Lee University, finishing seven-under.
