No. 14 GC Golf Opens 2013 With Eighth Place Finish at Matlock Invitational

LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 14 Georgia College golf team shot a final round 285 Tuesday, finishing plus-22 in a tie for eighth place at the Matlock Invitational, hosted by No. 4 Florida Southern College (FSC). The final round 285 was the third -best score of the round, and was combined with rounds of 304 and 297 from Monday.

The Bobcats tied with Peach Belt Conference (PBC) foe Lander University, just one stroke behind Valdosta State University, and one ahead of PBC member No. 17 Armstrong Atlantic at the Lone Palm Golf Club course in Lakeland, Fla. 

After posting a final round 68, senior All-American Taylor Smith (Mansfield, Ga.) led the Bobcats with a score of 221, good for 25th overall. Freshman Austin Glover (Johns Creek, Ga.) was just one stroke behind Smith in 31st with rounds of 74, 75, and 73 in his first career start for the Bobcats.

Senior All-American Patrick Garrett (Kennesaw, Ga.) carded a 76, 74, and 75 to finish in 42nd place at nine-over par. Joining him in 42nd was junior Bryan Fox (Roswell, Ga.) who added second and third round 74s to go along with his first round 77. Junior Victor Monte (Chantilly, Va.) finished in 53rd after posting a final round 70, combined with a 77 and 81 from Monday.

The team champion was No. 2 Barry University, setting the tournament record with a score of 26-under par, 12 shots ahead of host FSC. The individual winner was Tim Crouch of No. 4 Florida Southern, also setting a tournament record posting a 16-under par 200, five shots ahead of teammate Case Gard.

The Bobcats are back in action Monday, Feb. 25 at the Pirate Invitational in Savannah, Ga.
