#22 GC Golf Takes Runner-Up Honors at Bearcat Golf Classic

GREENWOOD, S.C. – Powered by two golfers in the top-10, the No. 22 Georgia College golf squad took second at the 2012 Bearcat Golf Classic, hosted by Lander University. GC shot rounds of 288, 293 and 294 for 11-over on the par-72, 6,800-yard Greenwood Country Club.

Freshman Ryan Trocchio (Norcross, Ga.) and junior Taylor Smith (Mansfield, Ga.) came into the day tied, and finished there after both carding 73s in the final round. Both golfers were one-over par at 217. Trocchio went 73-71-73, while Smith carded rounds of 68-76-73. It was the fourth top-10 finish for Trocchio is seven tournaments, while Smith has recorded a pair this season.

The low round for GC in today's action belonged to junior Patrick Garrett (Kennesaw, Ga.), posting an even-par 72. He finished one stroke behind the lead pair of Bobcats in 13th place. (73-73-72=218).

Freshman David Sullivan (Woodstock, Ga.) struggled with an 80 after carding rounds of 74 and 73 yesterday, and took 37th at plus-11. Classmate Victor Monte (Chantilly, Va.) recorded a counting round today of 76, and finished 51st after yesterday's rounds of 74 and 80.

No. 23 USC Aiken took the team title at an eight-under 856, putting three golfers in the top-10. The Bobcats were second among the tournament's 17 teams, bettering eight Peach Belt Conference (PBC) schools. The Bobcats were also above three top-25 teams in the most recent Golfstat Head-to-Head Rankings; No. 16 Georgia Southwestern State University, No. 17 Armstrong and No. 20 Carson-Newman College.

Flagler College's Joel Dahlenburg finished seven-under (66-67-76) as the individual medalist, taking the field by three strokes. Belmont Abbey College's Adam Hedges and Newberry College's Jon Weiss tied for second.

The Bobcats are back in action Monday, April 9 in Pine Mountain, Ga. for the 2012 PBC Championship at Callaway Gardens.
