#5 Lynn Nabs Second-Straight Bobcat Invitational Title; Host #6 GC Finishes Fourth

EATONTON, Ga. – Putting three golfers in the top-10, No. 5 Lynn University won the Bobcat Invitational for the second-straight season, a Division II tournament hosted by No. 6 Georgia College at the Golf Club at Cuscowilla.

Held at the par-70, 6,730-yard course, Lynn bested the field by just one stroke, carding rounds of 287, 281 and 286 for a plus-14 854. No. 8 Barry University and No. 4 University of West Florida finished second at 15-over par, Barry posting rounds of 286-282-287 and UWF 292-280-283.

Host GC was fourth at 20-over par, with No. 15 Armstrong Atlantic taking fifth at plus-23.

West Florida's Otto Bonning carded rounds of 70, 66 and 71 for a three-under 207, the lone golfer under par for the three rounds. Bonning ran away with the individual title by beating a three-way tie at four-strokes back.

GC's Joe Young (Cochran, Ga.) shot the low round of the day, putting up a 67 to go with a 71 and 73 yesterday. Columbus State University's Rourke Van der Spuy was also at 211 with rounds of 69, 70 and 72, joined by Jose Joia of Lynn at 72-70-69.

Three more golfers tied for fifth, with Lynn's Ricardo Gouveia posting a final-round 69 with yesterday's 71 and 72. Aaron Elrod of AASU carded 68-73-71 and Lander University's Max Fischer was 70-71-71.

For the host Bobcats, the two-time All-American Young led the way, followed by freshman Gavin Harper (Twin City, Ga.) in eighth (71-70-72=213). Playing as an individual, Taylor Smith (Mansfield, Ga.) was impressive, following a first-day 75 and 68 with today's 73. He was 18th at six-over. Senior Matthew Yonz (Waycross, Ga.) matched his best round of the tournament with another 70 today, and jumped to 20th at seven-over.

Reigning Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Golfer of the Week Patrick Garrett (Kennesaw, Ga.) finished 50th at 14-over with rounds of 72, 73 and 79. Individuals Ryan Steelman (Eatonton, Ga.) and Victor Monte (Chantilly, Va.) were 52nd and 67th, respectively.

Two-time PBC Golfer of the Week Billy Shida (Berkeley Lakes, Ga.) was 74th, shooting a 72, 75 and 84 for 21-over. Rounding out the remaining individuals was Bayley Craig (Eatonton, Ga.) in 76th.

The Bobcats are back in action March 28-29 at the Bearcat Invitational in Greenwood, S.C. hosted by Lander.
