GC Baseball Alum Gets Call-Up to State College Spikes

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Former Georgia College Baseball standout Brandon Purcell (2018) recently received a call-up to the State College Spikes, Class-A short season affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals organization.

Purcell has been with the Johnson City Cardinals of the Appalachian League, posting a .381 average with a home run and six RBIs in seven games. In Purcell's first game with State College, he went 1-for-4 with a single Aug. 5.

A four-year member of the Bobcat Baseball squad, Purcell was a two-time All-Peach Belt Conference (PBC) selection, finishing with a .341 average, 26 home runs and 197 RBIs. Purcell owns the NCAA-era record for GC career doubles with 55. He made his mark on the GC recordbooks, positioned seventh in runs (212), seventh in RBIs, ninth in hits (262) and fifth in putouts (995).

Purcell was drafted in the 32nd round by the Cardinals in 2018.
