No Offseason for Bobcat Baseball: Third Georgia College Summer Leagues Update

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Members of the Georgia College Baseball team continue to work hard this summer, competing in collegiate summer leagues across the country.

First baseman Clayten Ayres (Kennewick, Washington) is with the Walla Walla Sweets of the West Coast League. He's hitting .240 with a home run, eight RBIs and seven runs scored.

All-Peach Belt shortstop Brandon Benson (Loganville) is with the St. Cloud Rox of the Northwoods League (NL). He continues to improve after a slow start, elevating the average to .231 with 21 runs scored, four home runs and 22 RBIs. The rising senior has swatted eight doubles, good for third on the team.

PBC Pitcher of the Year Cameron Busby (Grovetown) and All-PBC outfielder Logan Mattix (Loganville) are also in the NL, playing for the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters. Both Bobcats made the league's All-Star Game. Busby has made 16 appearances, going 5-2 with a 3.54 ERA and 21 strikeouts over 33 innings. Mattix is hitting .245 with 28 runs, a team-best six home runs and 22 RBIs. He's also stolen five bases.

Also in the NL is Charlie Hecht (Johns Creek), pitching for the Kenosha Kingfish. He owns a 1-3 mark and 4.92 ERA over his eight starts, fanning 29 in his 42 innings.  

Utility Garrett Green (Bogart) is in the Sunbelt League, playing for the Gwinnett Tides with catcher Kyle King (Johns Creek). Green is hitting .340 with nine runs scored and nine RBIs. King is hitting .222 with four RBIs and a pair of runs scored.  

The Petersburg Generals in the CPL have pitcher Kane Keith (Hogansville). Keith owns a 1-0 mark and 2.76 ERA over his five appearances, tossing 16 1/3 innings and fanning 11. He got the start and the win July 17, going six innings with three runs and six strikeouts against Wilmington. 

Righty reliever Brooks Luther (Dallas) and lefty Bradley Spinner (Roswell) are with the Sedalia Bombers of the MINK League. Luther is second on the team with 10 relief appearances, owning a 1-1 record with one save, while Spinner has a 2-2 mark and 3.68 ERA in his seven starts. He's fanned 26 over his team-best 44 innings.

Righthander Jonathan McKinney (Marietta) is a member of the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs in the Perfect Game League. He's had a strong summer, posting a 3.06 ERA over seven games, a total of 29 1/3 innings pitched and 39 strikeouts, tops on the team.
