MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Sophomore Cameron Busby (Grovetown) of the Georgia College Baseball team was named the final Bobcat Athlete of the Week for the 2015-16 school year, for his efforts at the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament.
Busby was nothing short of dominant in a win over the University of North Georgia Thursday night, throwing all nine innings, holding a shutout to the ninth. The righty had seven 1-2-3 innings during the game, and also retired 17 in a row at one point from the third to ninth innings. Busby got 19 ground ball outs, and allowed two unearned runs in the ninth. With the tying run at the plate, a sinking liner to second ended the night. He finished with two hits allowed, no walks and three strikeouts.
The season has come to a close for Bobcat Baseball, a year in which the squad went 33-17, finishing the regular season with 10 straight wins, taking the PBC No. 4-seed. The Bobcats swept the conference awards, with Dylan Cook (Portola Valley, California) as PBC Player of the Year, Busby as PBC Pitcher of the Year and Wesley Wommack (Monroe) as PBC Freshman of the Year. It marks just the second time a conference school has won all three in the same season.
