Bobcat Baseball Ranks Among Nation’s Best in Multiple Categories

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College baseball team (32-15, 12-9 PBC) is in the top echelon of many statistical categories in the NCAA National Rankings, both team and individual.

The Bobcats currently sit at No. 3 in sacrifice flies with 30, just four behind No. 1 Francis Marion University. They stand tall at fourth in doubles with 115 and sixth in base on balls with 229. Carty’s ‘Cats are also in the top-10 in runs and stolen bases. They are No. 8 in scoring, crossing home 379 times and No. 10 in stolen bases, utilizing their speed to swipe 101 bags.

Not only does the team appear near the top of the rankings, but individuals have managed to crack the top-15 in many categories. Mike Guinane (Glenview, Ill.) and Jason Nicholas (Wright City, Mo.) are tied at No. 14 in the country with eight victories. Richard Pirkle (Norcross, Ga.) has cracked the top-15 in multiple categories so far this season. He is No. 15 in home runs with 11, No. 11 in base on balls per game, .85, and fourth in the nation with 40 walks.

Josh Young (Lake Havasu City, Ariz.) is No. 15 in the country in stolen bases with 29 and slugger Shawn Ward (Martinez, Ga.) sits at 12 with 56 runs batted in. Tanner Funk (Kearney, Mo.) has been a doubles machine this season and is No. 11 in the country with 19.

The Bobcats head into a crucial Peach Belt Conference (PBC) series this weekend, taking on Armstrong Atlantic (33-12, 14-7PBC) Friday, April 29 at 7 p.m., with a doubleheader to follow Saturday, April 30 at 2 p.m.
