MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.- The No. 27 Georgia College & State University baseball team (9-4, 3-0 PBC) took one game in extra innings, another with solid pitching in sweeping a doubleheader-and the series-from Armstrong Atlantic State University (6-6, 0-3 PBC) 7-6 and 7-2 today (Feb. 22) at John Kurtz Field.

Game one was won in the 10th, as a ChandlerSnell (Loganville, Ga.) single with one out scored Brooks Robinson (Evans, Ga.) for the game-winner. Robinson led off the 10th and was bunted over by Matt Pitts (Brunswick, Ga.) to set up Snell's heroic hit.

AASU grabbed three runs in the first, aided by a pair of Bobcat errors. Sophomore Sean Harrell (Martinez, Ga.) cut the lead to one at 3-2 with a two-run home run to right, hitting the top of the outfield wall and bouncing over to score himself and Snell. The Pirates got two more in the sixth, but the Bobcats responded with a four-run eighth to take the lead. Robinson provided a two-run double in the big inning.

A sacrifice fly from AASU's Kenny Cail knotted the game in the ninth, sending it to extra frames for the 10th inning finish. GCSU's junior designated hitter Buddy Elmore (Dallas) was 3-for-5 with a run. Robinson finished 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBI, while Harrell and Johns were each 2-for-4, Harrell adding a pair of RBI.

Junior Martin Dewald (Mannheim, Germany) got the win (2-1) going two innings with a strikeout, two hits and a run. Pirate closer Brandon McCreery gave up the loss (0-3).

In game two, junior Clete Jessup (Darien, Ga.) provided all the pitching the Bobcats would need, tossing seven strong innings, fanning seven and allowing just one walk. He surrendered two runs on seven hits over the seven frames, improving to 1-0. Pirate starter Thomas Gray dropped to 2-1 with a five-inning effort in the loss. He struck out nine Bobcats and allowed five earned runs on eight hits.

GCSU scored six of its seven runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings. A Derek Johns (Waynesville, Ga.) single plated both Snell and Danny McCorkell (Wentzville, Mo.) in the third to tie the game at 2-2. Steve Muoio (Rochester, N.Y) had the game-winning RBI in the fourth, singling home Pete Paris (Scranton, Pa.) who had also singled. A pair of groundout RBI stretched the lead to 5-2 at the end of the fourth.

Muoio and McCorkell were each 2-for-4 in game two. Johns was 3-for-4, going a combined 5-for-8 with three runs and two RBI in the two games.

The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 4:30 p.m., in a ranked showdown with No. 11 Valdosta State University.
