#18 Bobcat Baseball Takes Series with 16-8 Shootout


MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Powered by 18 hits including eight of the extra-base variety, No. 18 Georgia College & State University baseball (4-4) beat Southern Connecticut State University (0-3) 16-8 today (Feb. 15) at John Kurtz Field. The win gives the Bobcats a sweep in the three-game series.

Centerfielder Sean Harrell (Martinez, Ga.) went 4-for-6 driving in four runs and scoring three times on the day. Georgia College used an eight-run fifth to take over the game.

Down 6-2 into the bottom of the fifth, GCSU sent 12 batters to the plate in the eight-run rally, as Harrell had an RBI single and a two-run triple in that inning alone. Another big blow came off the bat of designated hitter Buddy Elmore (Dallas) as he ripped a two-run double off the wall in center, and then scored on the next play, a Pete Paris (Scranton, Pa.) double.

Elmore finished 3-for-4 with four RBI and a run, and Paris had a 3-for-4 effort with one run and an RBI. Matt Pitts (Brunswick, Ga.) was 2-for-5 with a pair of runs and an RBI, with Kyle Allen (Conyers, Ga.) scoring three times on a 2-for-4. Junior Andrew Evans (Milledgeville, Ga.) drilled his first home run of the season, a pinch-hit two-run blast in the bottom of the eighth.

Sophomore reliever Ryan Parson (Madison, Ga.) picked up his first career win (1-0) with 3 1/3 innings of solid relief, scattering four hits and a run. Steve Corbett (0-2) got the loss for the Owls.

The Bobcats are back in action Tuesday, Feb. 17 at 2 p.m., hosting a doubleheader with Columbia Union College for their season opener.
