NEW ORLEANS - The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association of America (USTFCCCA) recently released its week 3 Southeast Region rankings, with the Georgia College & State University teams both taking spots in the top-10. The men owned the No. 7 slot, while the women occupied the No. 10 position.

The Georgia College women slip three spots despite recently taking fifth place at the Mercer RunFit Sports Invitational hosted by Division I Mercer University. The men stayed put at No. 7 on the strength of a ninth-place finish at that same meet.

Two fresh faces led the team for the first time this season in the Mercer meet, as senior Virginia Balkcom (Fayetteville, Ga.) took the top slot for the women, taking 25th overall, and junior Tim Cary (Monroe, Ga.) was the best runner for the men at 37th.

On the women's side, Queens (N.C.) University keeps the top slot, with the Bobcats ranking fourth amongst PBC schools. Defending PBC Champion Columbus State University is third, while Augusta State University is fourth and the University of Montevallo stands ninth.

Queens had the sweep, taking the men's top slot as well, with GCSU third among the five PBC teams. Columbus State is No. 2, with Clayton State University in the third slot. UNC Pembroke is No. 9 and North Georgia No. 10. The Georgia College men's squad stayed put at No. 7 for the fourth-straight poll.

Both squads are back in action Saturday, Oct. 10 at the Southern Challenge in Marietta, Ga.
