Sutton Takes New Position at Adrian College

Matt Sutton

ADRIAN, Mich. – Georgia College Cross Country interim head coach Matt Sutton has accepted a new position at Adrian College, serving the NCAA Division III Bulldogs as assistant coach for cross country and track.

Sutton makes the move to Michigan after one season as the interim head coach of the Bobcats, serving as the graduate assistant prior to that, and as a four-year member of the GC Men’s Cross Country team.

“My time at Georgia College, both as a student-athlete and a coach, has been the best years of my life,” said Sutton. “I have learned and grown immensely as a coach and as a person. This has been possible due to terrific culture that is present at Georgia College. I am incredibly thankful to Wendell Staton and Steve Barsby for the opportunities and guidance they have provided me with. Most of all, I am so grateful for the opportunity to work with such a high-character group of student-athletes and for the meaningful relationships I have with them.”

The Bobcats performed well in Sutton’s season at the helm, the Bobcat Men taking fifth and Women sixth at the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) meet. Sutton also helped guide senior Tessa Allen to All-Southeast Region status, taking 17th at the region meet in November.

“I want to thank Matt for his service to Georgia College,” said Staton. “He provided stable leadership and continued to grow our outstanding culture within the department and Cross Country program.   He is the ultimate “team player” and we wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

Assistant Director of Athletics Steve Barsby will continue to serve as the program administrator and Bobcat Athletics will begin a search for the next leader of Georgia College Cross Country.
