#24 GC Women’s Tennis Falls 9-0 at #3 Columbus State

COLUMBUS, Ga. – Taking on their highest-ranked opponent of the season, the No. 24 Georgia College Women's Tennis team (12-6, 6-2 PBC) fell 9-0 at No. 3 Columbus State University (18-1, 8-0 PBC) Thursday.

The Cougars took all three doubles matches, but two were down to the wire.

In first doubles, the No. 29 doubles squad of Natalia Kattah Paz and Candice Paya beat Jena Kelly (Lawrenceville) and Valeria Lopez (Galicia, Spain) 8-5. In the second slot, Kristen Jones (Marietta) and Emilia Richter (Berlin, Germany) gave Beatriz Lopez and Noa Davico all they could handle in a 9-8 loss. In third doubles, Emma Niemi (Cumming) and Paula Garriga (Barcelona, Spain) fell to Giorgia Vitale and Marleen Tilgner 8-0.

First singles featured a ranked battle, as No. 59 Kelly lost by default to No. 49 Davico. On the second line, Lopez lost to Vitale 6-3, 6-4. In the third slot, Richter dropped her first singles match of the year, 6-3, 6-1 to Paya.

The fourth line went to Tilgner of CSU, as Jones fell by a pair of 6-3 sets. It took three sets, but Garriga dropped fifth singles bout to Luise Sachs 5-7, 6-2, 10-8. In the sixth slot, Niemi lost to Paz 6-3, 6-2.

The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, April 14 at 1 p.m., playing host to USC Aiken for Georgia College's Senior Day.
