FLORENCE, S.C. – The No. 31 Georgia College Women's Tennis team (11-9) is gearing up to compete in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament hosted by Francis Marion University Friday, April 21 in Florence, South Carolina.

Winners in five of their last seven matches, the Bobcat women look to carry momentum into the postseason.  The team amassed 11 wins throughout a tough PBC and non-conference schedule, defeating three nationally-ranked schools along the way.

Junior Emma Niemi (Cumming, Georgia) leads the team with 11 wins in singles action. Classmate Kristen Jones (Marietta, Georgia) also notched double-digit victories.

The doubles duo of Niemi and Jena Kelly (Lawrenceville, Georgia) owns the team's best mark at 11-9, mostly in the second slot.

In last season's tournament, Georgia College defeated Francis Marion 5-3 in the opening round before being dropped 5-0 by Armstrong State University in the Semifinals. Georgia College also fell in the third-place matchup 5-1 to Flagler College.

No. 7-seed Georgia College will be matched up against No. 2-seed ASU in the Quarterfinal round beginning at 9 a.m. at the Dr. Eddie Floyd Florence Tennis Center. The two teams met in Milledgeville earlier in the season, resulting in a 9-0 Pirate victory.

With a win, the Bobcat squad would face the winner of No. 3-seed Flagler College and No. 6-seed Young Harris College.  Columbus State University, the University of North Georgia, FMU and USC Aiken are the other teams filling out the field.
