MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Intercollegiate Athletics at Georgia College, the Bobcat Athletic Department will take a look back to iconic moments in the school's athletic history. These views will be available on the fifth of every month.

The 2008 season was a special one for Bobcat Soccer. Armed with one of the best defenses in the nation and the first All-American in school history in goalkeeper Mary Rob Plunkett, the Bobcats went 13-4-4 on the season, but achieved a goal no GC Soccer squad has done prior or since.

In 2008, just five years into the young Women's Soccer Program, Georgia College made its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Bobcats took an at-large bid and the No. 4-seed in the Southeast Regional played at Columbus State University.

While the Bobcats would come up short in the opening round matchup against Catawba College, a 2-1 overtime bout, the historic effort wouldn't go unnoticed.

That year the Bobcats set school records for wins (13) and goals against (10) while getting a league-high seven players on the All-Peach Belt Conference (PBC) teams. Making their first trip to the NCAA Tournament, Georgia College also earned the first national ranking in school history, reaching as high as No. 19, as well as the best region rank (4) and conference finish (3) in the school's five years of varsity soccer.

The Georgia College Department of Athletics, two-time winners of the PBC Commissioner's Cup and the 2017 PBC Sportsmanship Institution of the Year, sponsors 11 varsity athletic programs at the NCAA Division II level. As a Division II program, Bobcat Athletics prides itself on balancing the life of the student-athlete, evidenced by the teams' multiple appearances in post-season competition as well as documented academic success and community-service involvement.
