MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Softball team (19-10) took two close ballgames from Anderson University (16-8) in non-conference action Thursday at the Peeler Complex. The Bobcats won game one in a 7-6 walkoff and took the nightcap 3-1.

Game one was walked off by a hit from catcher Haley Howell (Rochelle) lifted up over the head of a shallow right fielder. The Bobcats had trailed for the majority of the game, but had just rallied with a four-run sixth to get in front. After the Trojans scratched across the tying run in the seventh, Howell answered by taking a single up over the head of the right fielder to score Sarah Couch (Madison) for the walk-off win.

The RBI single capped an amazing game for Howell, as the sophomore was 2-for-3 with four RBIs.

Freshman Rachel Wolverton (Valdosta) picked up her first collegiate win (1-0) with some much-needed lights-out relief. Wolverton tossed the final 3 1/3 with just a single hit and one run, struggling with control a bit by walking five, but getting out of jams with five strikeouts. At one point, the rookie set down eight in a row.

Game two belonged to sophomore Rebecca Lawrence (Vidalia). The lefty threw a complete-game four hitter, allowing a single run with one walk and four whiffs. Lawrence (4-5) also retired eight in a row at one point.

Anderson got in front again with a run in the first, but a three-run fifth was all Lawrence needed. In the fifth, the Bobcats took advantage of two Trojan errors, adding an RBI single for Caroline Snider (Tennille) and another for Howell.

The Bobcats are back in action Sunday, March 16 at 1 p.m., playing host to USC Aiken.
