GC Men’s Cross Country Team Earns Academic Honors

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) recently announced its end-of-season academic awards, with the Georgia College Men's Cross Country team earning the spot for individual and team NCAA Division II All-Academic honors.

The Scholar Teams of the Year were among 115 men's teams that earned All-Academic Team honors for the 2017 season. Programs must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or greater and scored at an NCAA Division II regional meet to qualify for the award.

The men's team earned a 3.43 overall GPA for the fall 2017 season, and had three runners earn All-Academic honors.

 Individual honorees must have compiled a cumulative GPA or 3.25 or greater and must have finished among the top 30 percent of total eligible runners at his regional championship.

 Senior James Galvin (Tucker), sophomore Colin Silliman (Douglasville) and freshman Brennan Silliman (Douglasville) earned the honors for the men's team.

The Bobcats were one of four men's cross country teams in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) on the list, owning the league's top GPA at 3.43. Columbus State University, Francis Marion University and UNC Pembroke join the Bobcats.

 The Georgia College Department of Athletics, two-time winners of the PBC Commissioner's Cup and the 2017 PBC Sportsmanship Institution of the Year, sponsors 11 varsity athletic programs at the NCAA Division II level.
