MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Senior student-athlete Tyler Mattix (Snellville, Ga.) has been named Georgia College Athlete of the Week for his performance in the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships, as announced by the Sports Information Department Tuesday afternoon.
The Bobcat harrier saved one of his best races for last, blistering the 10K course in just 32:41. His time put him in 17th place, good for the first men’s All-Region cross country honors in school history.
Mattix also rewrote the Georgia College record book, now holding the top 10K time in school history after topping teammate Dan Horseman’s (Cohutta, Ga.) 2010 NCAA Southeast Regional time by 10 seconds.
With his second GC Athlete of the Week award, Mattix joins women’s soccer student-athlete Ashley Veilleux (Monroe, Ga.) and men’s tennis player Jerome Leborgne (Coordimanche, France) as the only two-time recipients thus far this year.
