Bobcat Golf Stands 13th After Day One at Southeastern Collegiate

VALDOSTA, Ga. – Taking on one of their toughest fields of the season, the Georgia College Golf team stands 13th after a round at the First Federal Southeastern Collegiate Sunday, hosted by Valdosta State University. The Bobcats shot a 299 today for plus-11 on the par-72, 7,365-yard Kinderlou Forest Golf Club.

Junior Drew Duffie (Evans) is within the top-20 at 19th. Duffie fired an even-par effort today, including birdies on the par-three Nos. 8 and 15.

Second on the team and 36th overall in the 93-golfer field is junior Austin Mancilla (Lawrenceville). The No .23-ranked golfer in the country, Mancilla shot a two-over 74, recording four birdies, but five holes over par as well.

Freshman Hilton Beck (Macon) is 55th at four-over, and sophomore Daniel Davis (Columbus) a stroke behind in 66th. Rounding out the lineup for the Bobcats was junior Alex Wells (Evans) at six-over with a 78.

Of the 12 schools ahead of Georgia College in the standings, seven are ranked in the nation's top-25. The team race is led by No. 3 University of West Florida at two-under par. The other six are No. 1 Barry University, No. 2 Lynn University, No. 6 Florida Tech, No. 9 Nova Southeastern University, No. 15 Saint Leo University and No. 23 Columbus State University.

The Bobcats are ahead of a few notable teams in the 18-team field; No. 5 Florida Southern College, No. 19 Limestone College and No. 25 Georgia Southwestern State University.

The second of three rounds gets underway tomorrow, March 11. Wells will lead the team on the course at 9:15 a.m., as the Bobcats are paired with golfers from GSW and Newberry College.
