MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Georgia College Golf team is preparing to compete at the annual Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament in St. Augustine, Florida beginning Friday, April 13. The three-day tournament hosted by Flagler College will feature all nine teams from the PBC, as they vie for the title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Super Regional.
The Bobcats are led by sophomore Austin Mancilla (Lawrenceville) as the transfer has led Georgia College with a 73.65 stroke average in his first season as a Bobcat. Another transfer in senior Justin Connelly (McDonough) owns a 74.15 stroke average, good for second on the squad. Each player owns a top-five finish this season, and Connelly has two finishes in the top-10.
2016-17 All-PBC choice Thomas Hodges (Monroe) is the lone Bobcat with experience in the PBC title, finishing 20th in 2016-17 and 35th in 2015-16. Hodges has one top-10 finish this season.
Joining the experienced trio is two more Bobcat newcomers, as sophomore Drew Duffie (Evans) and freshman Daniel Davis (Columbus) round out the roster. Duffie played in all nine events this season, one of just three to do so. His best finish was 15th at the Richard Rendleman Invitational. Davis played in seven tournaments as a rookie, finishing seven over for the Griffin Invitational in the fall.
The 2017-18 campaign has featured top-10 team finishes in five of the nine contests this season, including fourth at the Richard Rendleman Invitational and sixth at both the Saint Leo Invitational and Bobcat Invitational.
Georgia College has taken home the conference tournament trophy twice, securing PBC Championships in 2000 and 2010. The 2018 tournament will take place at Slammer and Squire Course, with 18 holes being played each day. The Bobcats look to build on a fourth place performance at last year's contest.
