Bobcat Baseball Excited for Spring as 2018 Schedule Releases

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.  – The Georgia College Baseball team is gearing up for the start of another spring campaign, as the 2018 regular season schedule has been released. The schedule features 28 home contests, 30 Peach Belt Conference (PBC) matchups and a quartet of three-game stretches against opponents who were nationally-ranked in 2017.

The Bobcats open up the season Friday, Feb. 2 at John Kurtz Field in a non-conference showdown with Paine College. This home contest highlights an opening-weekend slate that continues on Saturday when Georgia College takes on North Greenville University and concludes on Sunday with a rematch against Paine.

Soon after, the Bobcats will be tested early, as they host the University of Tampa for a three-game series Friday, Feb. 9. The Spartans finished the 2017 season ranked 9th in the country by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper (CBN). Over the course of the season, Georgia College will face PBC-foes University of North Georgia (5) and USC Aiken (23), as well as Winston-Salem St. (30), three other opponents who also ended last year in the CBN rankings.

After posting an impressive 35-15 record, clinching their third PBC Tournament title in the last five seasons, and advancing to the NCAA Southeast Regional Tournament, the Bobcats will look to top the success earned in 2017 and add to the streak of five consecutive 30-win seasons.

The Georgia College Department of Athletics, two-time winners of the PBC Commissioner's Cup and the 2017 PBC Sportsmanship Institution of the Year, sponsors 11 varsity athletic programs at the NCAA Division II level. As a Division II program, Bobcat Athletics prides itself on balancing the life of the student-athlete, evidenced by the teams' multiple appearances in post-season competition as well as documented academic success and community-service involvement.
